There’s something about Virginia Beach that keeps calling us back. Maybe it’s the wide stretch of shoreline, the laid-back vibe, or the fact that it’s close enough to feel easy but far enough to feel like a getaway. Whatever it is, our most recent trip reminded us just how special this beach town is especially when the weather decides to show off.
We spent four absolutely perfect weather days in Virginia Beach, Virginia—sunny skies, low humidity, and just the right breeze coming off the water. This wasn’t our first time here, and it definitely won’t be our last, but this visit felt a little extra magical. Maybe it was the good company, the morning bike rides, the oceanfront breakfasts—or maybe it was all of it together.
Home Base: North End Charm
We stayed at the north end of the beach in a residential area with good friends, and it was the perfect spot to call home for a few days. This quieter stretch of Virginia Beach has a peaceful, tucked-away feel, but still keeps you close to everything.
One of the best parts about being in the north end is how bike-friendly the area is. We hopped on bikes every morning and could easily ride to restaurants, the boardwalk, or just along the beach for a little sunrise cruise. No fighting traffic. No circling for parking. Just salty air in our faces and the feeling of freedom that only a bike ride at the beach can give.
Breakfast Bliss: Katie’s on 33rd
Let’s talk about breakfast. There’s one place that has completely stolen our hearts—and our stomachs and it’s Katie’s on 33rd Street.
Katie’s isn’t fancy, and it doesn’t need to be. That’s part of its charm. It’s a no-frills, relaxed, casual spot with a solid breakfast menu and one unbeatable feature: it’s oceanfront. There’s something about sipping coffee with the sound of waves crashing nearby that just makes everything taste better.
Pro Tip: Sit outside, but choose the row closest to the building. You’ll get all the views without baking in the morning sun.
Between us, we’ve probably eaten at Katie’s over 25 times, and it’s always consistent. That’s hard to find these days.
My husband is a loyalist—steak and eggs, every time. Perfectly cooked steak, hearty portion, and those classic diner-style potatoes on the side. As for me, it’s a toss-up between the Belgian waffle or the pancakes, but one thing never changes: I always add a side of sausage patties. They’re savory, well-seasoned, and just the right amount of crispy around the edges.
Whether you’re fueling up for a full beach day or easing into the morning with good food and an even better view, Katie’s is a must.
Dinner with a View: Isle of Capri
After long days on the sand, we saved an evening for something a little more special and found the perfect place for it: Isle of Capri, tucked at the top of the Holiday Inn.
This Italian and seafood restaurant is, in our opinion, one of the best-kept secrets in Virginia Beach. It’s an old-school, elevated experience with white tablecloths, stunning views, and a timeless charm that makes you feel like you’ve stepped into another era.
We timed our dinner just right to catch the sunset over the ocean, and it took our breath away. Soft pink skies, gentle waves, and candlelight on the table. Pure magic.
I ordered the scallops in a light lemon cream sauce—delicate, buttery, and finished with just the right hint of citrus. It was one of those meals you slow down for, just to make it last a little longer. I paired it with an Old Fashioned that was perfectly balanced and smooth.
My husband chose the filet, which practically melted in his mouth. A true classic done right.
We were served by a wonderful Italian waiter who not only knew the menu inside and out but also loved to sing to us. It added a warm, joyful energy to the evening that felt completely authentic and unforgettable.
Isle of Capri isn’t just a restaurant. It’s an experience and one we highly recommend if you’re looking for an elevated dinner that still feels relaxed and welcoming.
Perfect Beach Days
You know those rare days when the beach feels just right? The kind where the water temperature is perfect, the waves are gentle, and you could float for hours without a care in the world? We had four of those in a row.
The ocean hovered around 79 degrees—warm enough to be comfortable, cool enough to refresh, and surprisingly clear for Virginia Beach. We waded out past the breakers, floated for what felt like forever, and never once got chilled.
It was calm. Peaceful. Restorative.
Beach chairs, good books, long walks, great friends, and plenty of sunscreen. Sometimes you forget how much your soul needs days like this until you’re in the middle of one.
A Boutique Worth Browsing: Lemon Cabana
No beach trip is complete without a little shopping, and Lemon Cabana was my find of the trip. If you’re looking for a women’s boutique with cute dresses, stylish accessories, and thoughtful gifts, this is the place.
It has a curated, coastal feel. I walked out with a breezy sundress I’ve already worn twice and a candle that now lives on my nightstand at home—a happy reminder of this trip.
Definitely worth popping into if you’re strolling or looking for a gift that feels special.
Final Thoughts
Our four days in Virginia Beach were exactly what we needed—easy, refreshing, and filled with simple joys. From bike rides to beachside breakfasts, sunset dinners, and boutique browsing, it was a reminder of how good life feels when you slow down and soak it in.
If you’re planning your own escape to the coast, we can’t recommend Virginia Beach’s north end enough. And if you find yourself at Katie’s or Isle of Capri, think of us—and order the sausage patties or the scallops. You won’t be sorry.
